Last week’s sinking of the Titan, a deep-diving tourist submarine charging $250,000 US a shot to view the wreck of the Titanic out a 20-inch window for a few minutes, captured the imagination of the world’s media in a way that exposes some of the deep rifts of our society.
Another example of unchecked balances is the 3 billion in record profit the Canadian cartel of grocery chains just reported. The only pol who stood up to them was Singh, but he is not in power. When small businesses are caught price-fixing, the BBB calls them out and people take note. When Big Oil and Grocery gouge us....crickets!
Right on! Consider the millions and millions of dollars that were spent both on recovery and on news coverage of that Titan incident. Very sad to see how we gravitate towards the trivial; I suppose it keeps her mind off the horrors unfolding daily around the world.
Well put, David.
