Prime Minister Mark Carney was criticised for using British spelling in December of last year and is now, according to several articles, being pressured to do exactly that by the Canadian people. It may be too subtle for our neighbours to pick up, but it is time for Canada to standardise on the little things like the last letter of the alphabet being ‘zed.’ There will be nothing to zee here, eh!
There are a lot more differences than just spelling. Are you suggesting that we put the punctuation marks outside of the quotation marks, too? There are lots of style guides for different functions. The federal government publishes "The Canadian Style" to ensure that all its written content in whatever format conforms to the same standards. This is why Editors Canada joined in writing the original letter objecting to some British spellings in official documents. You cite some examples of differing vocabularies as well as spellings, but what the public is effectively demanding is a complete revision of that style guide as well as the ones published by the Canadian Press, Editors Canada and a series of others lined up on my shelves.
I just watched the video you featured - right to the end, where he recommends moving to American spelling! Maybe find another one to support your argument?
