The idea of paving the roads independently, driving armoured cars, or storing belongings behind stone walls and a moat due to rampant crime amid poverty shouldn't be appealing to society yearning for decency.
To this point, where does the US executive class currently reside? On a military base? Being driven in armoured vehicles?
Personally I believe our elected officials should have high levels of security due to the public exposure they endure. However, I also believe society should render civility enough to have a chat with a member of council walking their dog or sitting in coach while taking a plane.
The late former Premier John Horgan comes to mind for not forgetting that the most marginalized of society deserve a hand up.
It feels to me like there were extra words in the following sentence that changed the meaning.
"The western capitalist experiment has been so successful, its propaganda so effective, that revolution remains remarkably unlikely."
I believe the following is more accurate:
"Western capitalist propaganda is so effective, that revolution remains remarkably unlikely."
I'm someone who doesn't hold anything as sacred, and wants a deterministic criteria for success to be fully articulated before starting an evaluation. In my lived experience, very few people have given any thought to a criteria for success, and have treated these Western European economic theories as axioms. I know that the Capitalist experiment has seemed successful under very narrow criteria for the benefit of a subset of individual humans, but it fails criteria for success that I consider relevant (I personally don’t subscribe to Anthropocentrism, Androcentrism, Individualism and thus Lockean property, some aspects of Roman property, etc).
Onto this propaganda around Capitalism is regularly added the false binary (a logical fallacy) of thinking that Marxism is the opposite of Capitalism, as opposed to a minor set of critiques that remain firmly within Western European worldviews (Enlightenment ideologies, Western Liberalism, etc).
This so needed to be said loud and clear! Enough!!!
