Police line: do not cross - Canada's New Government

The latest bit of tory propaganda to show up in my mailbox is a photo of police tape blurring into a door in the background, with the message "Canada's New Government".

In smaller letters below that it reads: "Tackling Crime for a Strong Canada".

On the back it reads: "Stephen Harper: Taking action. Tackling crime." It lists in point form: "hard time for serious crime", "more police", "bolstered border security", "getting tough on: - street racing; - child exploitation; and - youth crime." Beside all this it says "Canada's New Government is tackling crime to protect our safe streets and the Canadian way of life." This last quote is in double-quotes on the flyer, credited to Stephen Harper, complete with an either air-brushed or outdated picture of our esteemed leader, and includes contact information for Stephen Harper, MP and a small Conservative logo.

The back isn't all that exciting, but I particularly like the front. The juxtaposition of police tape and "Canada's New Government" is remarkably fitting. I don't think it was intended that way, but the message I get from the front side of this flyer is clearly: "Canada's new government is criminal."

Love it! Someone should collect and scan all the pieces the Conservatives send out like this. I'm sure years (maybe months) from now, it will show the true hypocracy of their messaging. It would be nice to see a similar piece on their "reduction of wait times" promise.

Think that's bad? You should see their reworking of the Gov't of Canada website! It has the ridiculous "Canada's New Gov't" slogan everywhere - AND the dorky picture of Shrub on it...

WesternGrit - jeez, I hadn't noticed.

www.pm.gc.ca especially looks remarkably like www.conservative.ca. Same dorky picture, same Canadian flag behind it, albeit scaled slightly differently.

Ah well. I'm looking forward to the next piece of contradictory propaganda. Who's the Minister of Information these days, anyway?
